The schools in Camps Bay are introducing a fundraising initiative to raise money for the African Brothers Football Academy from Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay.

According to the People’s Post, pupils from the preparatory, primary and high schools, will contribute R2 a week for the pleasure of wearing soccer colours to school on Fridays, as well as predict who will win the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

The pupil with the correct prediction will win R1000, while all other funds raised will go to the football academy, which is situated in one of the poorer areas of Hout Bay.

Cape Town Tourism has back the initiative and also encouraged schoolchildren to get involved in welcoming visitors to Cape Town during the tournament.

Craig Hepburn, from the African Brothers Football Academy, told the People’s Post he is grateful for the support. “It is really heartwarming to see how South Africans are caring for one another,” he said, adding that the funds generated would be used to purchase equipment that members of the academy could not afford.
