Calling all angels to make a Christmas wish come true!
Original T-Bag Designs, a company nestled in the hills of Hout Bay in the Western Cape, is facing a crisis: after a highly successful Christmas gift, toy and décor exhibition in Johannesburg, the company has had massive orders for its popular “tea bag angels”. The problem is that the company does not have enough used tea bags to produce the angels required to fill its Christmas orders! Original T-Bag Designs is therefore appealing to the public to send in their used, tagged tea bags.
Tea bag angels are made from dried, emptied tea bags, which are ironed and fashioned into angels. The angels’ beautiful “skirts” are made from tagged tea bags, as these are longer than the untagged variety.
This simple, innovative use of everyday items goes a long way to creating jobs and raising the living standard of people living in the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement in Cape Town – the creative hands behind Original T-Bag Designs’ products.
Original T-Bag Designs was founded more than 11 years ago with the aim of creating sustainable employment for the people of Imizamo Yethu. Working with recycled tea bags, artists from the community have created an innovative range of greeting cards, artwork and other high-quality, handmade products, all of which fly the “Proudly South African” banner.
The next time you have a cuppa using a tagged tea bag, please remember to save it – and send it to Original T-Bag Designs at Unit 4 Kronendal Business Park, Main Road, Hout Bay, Cape Town.
