Burning Bo-Kaap air – Flickr pic of the day

Blog Featured Image

This dramatic image of a fire on the mountain behind Bo-Kaap was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Kristina Møller in January 2006.

Kristina says, “It was a normal day in Cape Town, and suddenly there was a fire on the mountain ... and it coloured the sky! Cape Town is a lovely city. I have been there twice. I´m from Copenhagen in Denmark.

“Cape Town is a multi-cultural place, which I like a lot. If you look one way you see one world, and if you look the other way, you see a different world.

“The city is modern and constantly under development, and it greets people with open arms. The people are always so friendly,” she continues.

With its brightly coloured houses at the foot of Signal Hill, Bo-Kaap is the spiritual home of the Cape’s Muslim community.

Follow Wale Street until you get to brightly painted Georgian terraces and narrow cobbled streets – you’re in Bo-Kaap, one of Cape Town’s most colourful suburbs.
