Bright and beautiful Bo-Kaap – Flickr pic of the day

This lovely image of Bo-Kaap was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Gaby Gang aka cosmopolitanphotography.

Gaby says, “Bo-Kaap in Cape Town is a vibrant, colourful area full of wonderful, exotic smells drifting out of the wide open doors of all the little shops one can find there.

“It’s a delight to visit this area – for the history addict, for the photographer, for the gourmet – for everyone. Nobody should miss it!” she adds.

Bo-Kaap has a fascinating history. Many of the residents are descendants of the slaves from Malaysia, Indonesia and elsewhere in Africa who were imported to the Cape of Good Hope by the Dutch during the 16th and 17th centuries.

The best place to find out about the history of the area is the quaint Bo-Kaap Museum (+27 21 481 3939).
