Boulders Beach – Flickr pic of the day

This beautiful photo of Boulders Beach was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Ian Junor aka ifijay.

Ian says, “Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town is a sheltered beach made up of inlets between the granite boulders that give it its name. It is located in the Cape Peninsula, near Cape Point.

“Boulders Beach is a popular tourist stop because of the colony of African penguins (spheniscus demersus) that settled there in 1982.

“Although it is in a residential area, this is one of the few sites where this vulnerable bird can be observed at close range, wandering freely in a protected, natural environment.

“As a regular weekend hiker in and around Cape Town and its surrounds, I find photo opportunities in abundance. There aren’t too many other cities in South Africa that can boast mountains and the sea within walking distance of each other. The beauty of Cape Town is difficult to surpass.”
