Bo-Kaap wedding – Flickr pic of the day

This lovely photo of a bride and groom in the midst of the Cape Minstrel Carnival in Bo-Kaap was provided by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Robert Wallace aka RobW. The photo is of his daughter’s wedding and was taken by Freda Elliot-Wilson.

Robert says, “Jacqui Wallace (formerly from Rosebank) and Rory Nicholson (Bothasig) flew from London to get married in their home town, Cape Town.

“After the formal wedding photos with family and retinue were taken, Jacqui asked to have some photos taken of just the couple in the picturesque Bo-Kaap.

“Quite by chance, the Cape Minstrel Carnival was taking place that afternoon.

“Sensing the opportunity, photographer Freda Elliot-Wilson encouraged the couple to mingle with the paraders, who responded enthusiastically, resulting in this quintessentially Cape Town wedding photograph, full of movement, happiness and joie de vivre,” he continues.

The minstrel street parade starts in District Six and makes its way through the city centre. During the month of January various mini-festivals take place over the weekends in the city centre, Bo-Kaap and Green Point.
