Bo-Kaap adventure – Flickr pic of the day

This adorable image was captured by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Patricia aka global-nomad.

Patricia says, “I recently spent the morning wandering around the Bo-Kaap in Cape Town. It’s a photographer’s paradise!

“The colours of the houses are stunning, the details on some of the door knobs, signs and numbers so intricate. The views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and the CBD were also some of the best I’ve seen.”

“The people of the Bo-Kaap deserve a special mention as they were incredibly friendly and welcoming – always ready with a nod or a smile. I got invited in to an old lady’s house to see how she lived; she had been there for 45 years and shared some of the unique history of the area with me.”

The Bo-Kaap has a fascinating history. Many of the residents are descendants of the slaves from Malaysia, Indonesia and elsewhere in Africa who were brought to the Cape of Good Hope by the Dutch during the 16th and 17th centuries.
