Be climate smart in Cape Town
Join the Climate Smart Cape Town campaign in celebrating the Mother’s City commitment to climate change with a variety of events from November 18 to 20, 2011.
These days being climate smart, environmentally friendly and green is all the rage, as it should be. We have a universal responsibility to be aware of our carbon footprint and how we can contribute to being more responsible.
Climate Smart Cape Town is a campaign centred on helping you, the Mother City’s vibrant residents, learn about climate change and what the City of Cape Town and other leading organisations are doing about it.
We’re sure you’re doing your part too, by reducing water, electricity usage and recycling, but why not be Climate Smart this weekend by attending the following events?
Inspiring Change Gathering
Put on your thinking caps and expose your caring hearts at the FREE Inspiring Change Gathering at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
The jam-packed programme, which includes presentations about cities taking on climate change, as well as Cape Town’s solutions, is designed to stimulate fresh thinking and you could be a part of it.
The Green Expo
Trendy sustainable living enthusiasts will love the Green Expo at the CTICC this weekend.
Featuring green exhibitors like Live Eco and Simply Green, this expo brings together all businesses and like-minded folk involved in conservation, recycling sustainable business practices etc.
Happy Hour turns into Rush Hour at Maria’s Café in Gardens on Friday, November 18, as this trendy restaurant plays host to the first South African Carrotmob.
Carrot what you ask? Carrotmob is an event aimed at creating social change whereby huge crowds of customers are encouraged to "mob" a business that is socially and environmentally conscious on a certain day. Think Pick n Pay at month-end for a few hours.
This Friday, the lucky business in question is Maria’s and the big-hearted owners have kindly committed 100% of the revenue from the event to a communal composting system for use by neighbouring restaurants and residents, education and training of their staff, suppliers and customers and the purchase of green electricity certificates, amongst others.
Climate Smart Community Event
Sunshine, green activity and thrilling entertainment await you at the Climate Smart Community Event at the Green Point Urban Park on Sunday, November 20.
Bring your kids, friends and family along and enjoy sprawling on the luscious lawns, listening to music. Feast on good food, dance with Unima SA's giant puppets while learning about how to care for the environment.
