Athlone cooling towers demolition – Flickr pic of the day
Jim says: “The weather could have been better. A lot of photographers had their expensive equipment covered with an array of water-proofing; shower caps, jackets, cling-wrap, etc.
“While waiting for the implosion, there was music and commentary about the towers. However, sitting on top of a ladder to get a good vantage point, I heard a faint, ‘Four ... Three ...’. Surprised, because it was still a few minutes before the intended time, I pointed my camera at the towers and started shooting. I was one of the lucky few to get the full implosion. Most of the other photographers still had their cameras wrapped up in their impromptu rain-coats.”
