African penguin colony – Flickr pic of the day
Jacques says, “The photo was taken between the stunningly beautiful Boulders Beach and Windmill Beach, where an African penguin colony is thriving with support from locals in the area and nature conservation authorities.
“It was taken using a vintage 1960s film camera with no zoom capabilities, so I had to get very close to these two to get the shot. From their nonchalant behaviour, it is apparent that these fascinating birds have become quite accustomed to the presence of people. They are just another example of the remarkable and diverse animal life found here in the Cape.”
See a breeding colony of African penguins at close range at Boulders, where you can also swim in the sea and enjoy the sandy beach.
