Lion’s Head Sunsets Mar 12, 2010

A view from Lion’s Head. Photo by Mike Metelerkamp.
It had been about a year and a half since my last climb up Lion’s Head, so I jumped at the opportunity to join a group of friends who were going up last weekend.
I encourage everyone in Cape Town to do this more regularly. It’s only minutes from the CBD and it isn’t very intensive, especially considering the reward at the top.
There isn’t a whole lot of summer weather left, so put on some shoes and make it part of your weekend.

Long Street in Cape Town has an irresistible ambience and irrepressible spirit. It stretches out over more than 20 blocks in Cape Town’s central business district.

These guys take a moment to chill from the sweaty shuffle of clubs that thump till the early hours of the morning.

Long Street has much to offer the culinary enthusiast, from small coffee shops to top-class restaurants. Indian, Spanish, Mexican and Cape Malay fragrances fill the air, luring hungry visitors and passers-by.

Long Street’s vibrant night life kicks into full gear quite late. The cosmopolitan mix includes plenty of tourists who mingle comfortably with locals.

This photograph of a cloud-covered Table Mountain, taken from Lion’s Head, was captured by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Feifan Wang aka 4thethrillofit.
Feifan says: “The picture was taken on our last day in Cape Town when we climbed Lion’s Head. It was particularly foggy and we could not really see our surroundings until we were about two-thirds of the way up. When the fog cleared for just a few minutes, I had the opportunity to capture this amazing scene.”

Constantia Corner – Flickr pic of the day Mar 10, 2010

This photograph of the view from a hike above Constantia Nek was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Marie Viljoen.
Marie says: “The picture was taken just past Constantia Corner (a hike that starts above Constantia Nek) and overlooks Lemoenkloof/Orange Kloof and Hout Bay. Proffessor Michael Cherry led the hike as he had a research permit to enter Lemoenkloof, which is accessible only with a permit. It is home to one of the last surviving stands of Afromontane forest in Cape Town and is an ecologically sensitive area.”
Read Marie’s blog about her hike here.

Bianca says, “This photo was taken off a boat coming into Cape Town Harbour. It struck me how much the view has changed since the sailors of the 17th century arrived here – but it certainly remains as welcoming now as it must have been then.”

A view from Kalk Bay – Flickr pic of the day Mar 6, 2010
.jpg)
This photograph of the view south from Kalk Bay was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Steve Crane.
Steve says, “This photo was taken early one Sunday morning on a Flickr meeting at Kalk Bay Harbour. I was walking back from the end of the jetty after giving up hope of seeing another breach from a whale (one had breached right next to us). Something about the scene appealed to me, so I snapped this image with my film camera. It crossed my mind to climb up onto the wall in the foreground, but as it was rather windy I thought it best not to push my luck and risk taking a dive onto the rocks below!”
