From spectacular musicals to side-splitting comedies and thought-provoking dramas, there are plenty of amazing productions to see from July to August 2013. Winter is the perfect time to indulge in lots of good food and fantastic wine ... after all, no one is going to see what’s under those bulky clothes for a good few months! What better way to make the most of the “eating season”, as I have affectionately dubbed it, than with one of Cape Town’s many winter specials? I was invited to experience Harbour House V&A’s new winter menu and let me tell you, it’s a treat!
I recently spent some time discovering all that the Helderberg has to offer, from places to stay to things to do. You can read all about it here: Where to stay in the Helderberg, and here: Things to do in the Helderberg. Here are a few pictures I took on Instagram along the way.
Hello pay-day weekend! Yes, Mother City lovers, it’s nearly the magical 48 hours after you’ve been paid and there are plenty of fun things to spend your hard-earned cash on. Join me at the following events from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 June, 2013…
It’s Wednesday in the gorgeous Mother City, and that means I want to know Where You Would Rather Be today in Cape Town.
The suburb of Kenilworth forms part of Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs. Sandwiched between Wynberg and Claremont, this suburb is nestled right in the heart of the Southern Suburbs action. Situated within Kenilworth is the famous racecourse, not to mention the shopping mecca, Access Park. A 20-minute drive takes you to the city centre or any of the beaches along the Atlantic Seaboard. These are our top things to do in Kenilworth.
“Oh, what a night!” The strains of the renowned Four Seasons song December, 1963 are still playing in my head and putting a bounce in my step following the opening of the award-winning Broadway hit musical Jersey Boys at the Artscape Theatre on Sunday 23 June, 2013.
Winter can be brutal for those less fortunate, and Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula have already felt the full force of winter over the past few weeks ... and there is plenty more icy, wet weather to come. Give a little love this winter and drop a blanket with any of Cape Town Tourism’s Visitor Information Centres for the Cape Point Blanket Drive.
Winter in Cape Town can mean cold and wet days. But Iziko Museums is providing lots of comfort to keep families warm this winter.
The Jive Cape Town Funny Festival comedians and organisers took to the coast on Sunday 16 June, 2013, to explore the many wonders that the West Coast National Park (WCNP) has to offer.
Cape Town Tourism’s Facebook game, My Cape Town Holiday, picked up a Gold award at the 2013 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, in the Branded Content & Entertainment category. This comes within weeks of Cape Town Tourism picking up a Travel + Leisure award for Best Overall Use of Social Media.
School’s out! It’s holiday time, and while we know about plenty of fun activities in Cape Town to keep the kids entertained, we wanted to hear from you too. We asked the fans of our Facebook page, I ♥ Cape Town, “Where’s the best place to take the kids during the holidays?” Here are some of the suggestions.
There’s been a resurgence of food-and-wine pairings in Cape Town of late. Fine diners with a penchant for award-winning wines, no longer confined to just the vast estates of the Cape Winelands, are flocking to top wine-and-dine events all over the Mother City.
It’s almost the weekend! And while you may still be recovering from the recent epic long weekend, there are plenty of things to see and do in our gorgeous town over the coming 48 hours.
Long before the Dutch East India Company landed at the Cape to set up a refreshment station, the Helderberg region provided grazing for the animals of the indigenous Khoisan people, and wildlife such as eland.
Between the hiking and mountain-biking trails, horse riding, wine and beer tasting, wildlife encounters, spectacular beaches, golf courses and mouth-watering restaurants, there are hardly enough hours in the day to explore all that the Helderberg has to offer!

Rob Vember is a radio DJ and proud Capetonian. He grew up in Cape Town and studied in Grahamstown, where, working at the campus station, he was bitten by the radio bug. Returning to the Mother City to join the DJ line-up on Heart FM, he then made the move to Johannesburg to become part of the 5FM team, where he has been for the last few years. He recently made the move back home to continue presenting his weekday show from 5FM’s Cape Town studios. We asked him what he loves about the city.

Cape Town isn’t just beautiful; she’s cost-effective, too … the Mother City has been named as the ninth-cheapest city in the world by TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, on Wednesday 12 June, 2013.
Don’t be fooled by this great-grandmother enjoying the winter sunshine and quietly knitting – she jumped out of an aeroplane when she was 96, loves taking road trips to Fish Hoek and plays croquet three times a week. Age is clearly no match for Georgina Harwood. I could call her feisty and sprightly, but that would be an insult. She may see herself as a very ordinary woman, but spend a few hours in her company, and you will be bowled over by her.

Baby, it’s a long weekend in gorgeous Cape Town! It’s going to be chilly, but that doesn’t mean you should stay indoors. With the red-hot entertainment on offer in the Mother City, there is plenty to see and do.
Claremont forms part of Cape Town’s bustling Southern Suburbs and is one of the Mother City’s most recognisable areas. It is where you might find families enjoying a day of shopping and entertainment at the renowned Cavendish Square, bridal parties posing for unforgettable photographs at the Arderne Gardens, or students from the neighbouring University of Cape Town exploring the vibrant nightlife of the area.
