Five things you didn’t know about the Castle of Good Hope
The Castle of Good Hope, a Cape Town landmark, is a prime example of a “star fort”. Built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East India Company, it’s the oldest existing colonial building in South Africa. Its position marks the original shoreline before years of land reclamation changed the Table Bay coastline.

Cape Town is famous for its spectacular sunsets. Says flowcomm: “I took this photo one evening as I was having dinner and a drink at the restaurant at the top with a friend. I don’t live in Cape Town, but visit fairly often and go up Table Mountain whenever I can. Just being at the top, and breathing in the mountain air and enjoying the beautiful views, is good for the soul.”
