Italy vs Brazil – a Confederations Cup photo essay
I don’t know whether I am the only one to think this, but there has been such a vibe in the country since the Confederations Cup began. People smiling more and are constantly excited – we all have something we can talk about and relate to. Last night’s experience made me feel proud to be South African.
The Vodacom Funny Festival gets a ten on the laughter scale
On Wednesday night I attended the annual Vodacom Funny Festival – a night of stand-up comedy at the Baxter Theatre. As a student, I rarely have the opportunity to watch expensive shows of any sort, much less so stand-up comedy. So when an acquaintance offered me a front-row seat that he had won, I jumped at the prospect.

One of the many reasons to love the Mother City in winter is that it’s fynbos season. This means that, in a number of areas around Cape Town, you will find an abundance of strikingly beautiful indigenous plants and flowers.
Fynbos (meaning “fine bush”) is a group of flora endemic to a small area of South Africa’s Western Cape.

Brazil made winning look easy against Italy, with a double coming from Luis Fabiano, and an own goal from Italian defender Andrea Dossena to seal the fate of the Azzurri.
Now Bafana Bafana fans will go back to Ellis Park, where South Africa played to a goaless draw with Iraq in the Confederations Cup opening game, to watch South Africa take on the South American champions.

Italy beats USA 3-1 in Confederations Cup: Pictures
Italy and the USA line up for the national anthems at the start of their Conferderations Cup 2009 encounter, June 15, 2009. Italy won the match 3-1.
The atmosphere at the match was great – huge support for Italy of course. But the USA had a fair amount of support as well, and did really well against the 2006 FIFA World Cup winners, even after they were reduced to 10 players in the first half by a red card. I found it amazing how there were spectators of all ages.
Quick fact: As the winner of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Italy represents the World in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.
