More exciting activities for Cape Town’s kids this winter

Noordhoek Beach, photo courtesy Damien du Toit Enchanted Garden If you want an escape that is close to home but far from your everyday life then head for Enchanted Garden, an exclusive chalet and cottage on a spacious property at the foot of Chapman’s Peak in Noordhoek. Enchanted Garden is close to the magnificent 7km (4mi) Long Beach stretch with its breathtaking scenery. Over and above the quaint country atmosphere, the Noordhoek area has a lot to offer kids, including restaurants (try the child-friendly Noordhoek Farm Village), a shopping mall (with movies and a Spur), horse-riding and (in neighbouring Kommetjie) camel rides.

Langa township: an insider’s look – a Cape Town Tourism photo essay

Solo Photo Book Month (SoFoBoMo) is an online organisation encouraging photographers worldwide to create a book over a period of one month. Entries are submitted for judging by the organisers and the successful applicants have their books published online. Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Paul Perton registered his book online and was one of the 212 successful applicants out of 884. Paul’s book features Cape Town’s Langa township – see below for an extract. Location: Matroosberg Nature Reserve, Ceres Distance from Cape Town: about three hours’ drive Vehicle: 4x4 required Kit: snowboards, boots and obvious snow gear – gloves, hats, jackets and snow pants – and don’t forget lunch and plenty of liquids. Cost: tank of petrol, R50 per person for entrance into Nature Reserve and R250 per vehicle.

Post Confederations Cup: Cape Town is ready to welcome the world!

Confederations Cup – a highlights package

With 2010 just around the corner, South Africa had a lot to prove during the Confederations Cup with regard to our readiness to host the World Cup. Needless to say, it was a resounding success! Cape Town Tourism followed all the action closely. Here are a few of our highlights.

Photo courtesy Shine 2010 And so we did it, South Africa hosted the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup ™ with far more compliments offered than apologies given.  Sure there were a few stumbling blocks along the way (depending which park and ride you used) but there is no doubt that we have paved the way to deliver a 2010 World Cup ™ which is set to be one of the most exciting, cosmopolitan and authentically South African sporting events and Football World Cups ever. Over the past few centuries South Africa has unmistakeably demonstrated its ability to not only learn and grow but to deliver on its promises. We are a nation that strives to improve, we foster a culture which strives to grow and our Proudly South African youth are indeed “alive with possibility”.

Blowing, breaching, “sailing” and smacking the surface of the water are some of the things you can expect to see these ocean giants do.

Mzoli’s Place – My first township experience

For a friend’s recent birthday, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to experience another side of Cape Town, an experience that is now firmly placed in my top five favourite things about Cape Town. Sadly, Ratanga had to fall away, but is still held close to my heart. Since early 2003, Mzoli Ngcawuzele’s business has been meat, through which he has transformed a run-of-the-mill butchery into one of the most popular experiences in Cape Town.

The complex borders the wetland that was left after the construction of Century City, as a conservation requirement for the development.”

Confederations Cup 2009 Closing Ceremony and Final Match

USA took on Brazil in the final match of the 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup on June 28 at Ellis Park, Johannesburg, South Africa. The favourites, Brazil, were better supported in the stands than their counterparts, but at half time, it was USA that led the scoreboard, 2-0. Less than a minute into the second half, however, Brazil had scored, making it 2-1. And then, in the 74th minute, Luis Fabiano scored an equaliser, bringing the score to 2-2. In the 84th minute, Brazilian skipper Lucio took Brazil into the lead, 3-2. It was the goal that would make Brazil the Confederations Cup champions for a record third time.

Bafana Bafana fans will be proud tonight that their team came so close to beating the world’s top-ranking team, and were beaten a respectable 3-2 in the end. R. Kelly’s first visit to Cape Town

Singer and songwriter Robert Sylvester Kelly will bring soul, warmth, rhythm and blues to the GrandWest Casino, where you could hear hits such as “I Believe I Can Fly”, “Trapped in the Closet”, “Bump ’n Grind”, “The World’s Greatest”, and “Same Girl” in collaboration with Usher.
