The first ever soccer match at Cape Town Stadium took place between Santos and Ajax Cape Town on Saturday.

The game was played beneath an incredibly blue sky and a crowd of 20 000 jubilant spectators. The event went off without a hitch, and it was a privilege to be there on this historic day.

Fish Hoek beach, photo courtesy Ian Junor It was quite weird and slightly frightening hearing about the shark attack on Fish Hoek beach. I was shocked and surprised, as it was totally unexpected and out of the ordinary.

The vuvuzela, much like the 1995 Rugby World Cup victory in South Africa, is a unifying force for South Africans. In the case of the vuvuzela, the common purpose appears to be blowing as loudly as possible into a plastic tube that, when played correctly, sounds like a sheep being “waterboarded” by a particularly enthusiastic US marine.
