Winter wonderland in the Cape’s Gordon’s Bay

The global economic recession has not been kind to small businesses in South Africa that rely on tourism, so when I heard the Gordon’s Bay Business Forum was putting on a festival to invigorate the beach town during its slow season, I was keen to attend. And after spending last Saturday evening taking in the sights and sounds of the Gordon’s Bay Winter Wonderland festival, I can report it was truly heartening to see the community spirit on show in the small town tucked away in False Bay’s eastern corner.

Award-winning Jersey Boys opens in Cape Town

“Oh, what a night!” The strains of the renowned Four Seasons song December, 1963 are still playing in my head and putting a bounce in my step following the opening of the award-winning Broadway hit musical Jersey Boys at the Artscape Theatre on Sunday 23 June, 2013.

Cape Town: A surfing mecca

One of the best things about living in Cape Town is that it feeds my addiction. Before you start judging me, my habit is surfing, which you’d have to admit doesn’t really compare to some of the more self-destructive addictions out there (although I did get a surfboard fin stuck in my forehead once, which was a bit reckless of me). And it seems I’m not the only one who thinks Cape Town is a bit of a surfing mecca.

Jesus Christ Superstar in Cape Town

I must admit that, until recently, I have never been a huge fan of the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar. But after Saturday May 14’s spectacular opening night at the Artscape Theatre Centre, I am a true believer! I enjoyed it so much that I’ve been spreading the word to everyone I know.

The king of pop lives on in HIStory Show II in Cape Town

He’s not alive, he’s not alive, HE IS NOT ALIVE! That’s the phrase I kept repeating as I watched the Michael Jackson HIStory Show II at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town on Saturday, October 13, 2012. Beyond the nuances, dance moves and costumes, Wizz (albeit with a more chiselled chest!) bears such a striking resemblance to the king of pop, it’s unsettling and eerie, yet also amazing.
