Cape Town has marked World Industrial Design day by signing a host city agreement between the City of Cape Town and the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), confirming Cape Town as the World Design Capital for 2014.

The Your Street Challenge, inspired by Design Indaba, made its international debut in the city of Eindhoven in the Netherlands this month. This follows the concept launched in Cape Town last year as part of the World Design Capital 2014 bid celebrations.

At 1 000m above sea level, it is the world’s highest commercial abseil with a controlled descent of 112m. No previous climbing experience is needed to abseil down the mountain.

Cape Town is usually associated with summery blue skies, white sand beaches, sun downer boat cruises and late dinners with friends but winter is Cape Town’s atmospheric season of culture; a time of pampering, a blast of action-adventure fresh air and a journey through a gourmet wonderland. It’s not uncommon to enjoy a week of sunshine and temperatures ranging from 21 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Take advantage of windy Cape Town by taking to the skies. Wind is not essential for paragliding, but conditions are most suitable when it is blowing from 10-30km/h. Ideally, it should be blowing upslope with a tolerance of 15 degrees making the Mother City’s winter ideal.
Winter sees some of the best months for surfing in Cape Town. The water at Muizenberg is considerably warmer compared to that of the Atlantic Seaboard.
