Why Rob Vember loves Cape Town
Rob Vember is a radio DJ and proud Capetonian. He grew up in Cape Town and studied in Grahamstown, where, working at the campus station, he was bitten by the radio bug. Returning to the Mother City to join the DJ line-up on Heart FM, he then made the move to Johannesburg to become part of the 5FM team, where he has been for the last few years. He recently made the move back home to continue presenting his weekday show from 5FM’s Cape Town studios. We asked him what he loves about the city. -

Carols by candlelight attracts thousands to Kirstenbosch
Carols by candlelight, held at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden from Thursday to Sunday, concluded with last night’s gathering of around 6 000 people.
There wasn’t an uncovered blade of grass in the concert area, as families, friends and visitors gathered to sing carols, waves candles, and take in views of Devil’s Peak.

Help hip hop dancers get to world championships!
Release Dance Crew invites all hip hop dancers and anyone who wants to have a good time to a fundraising bash. They need your support so that they can represent South Africa at the World Hip Hop Dance Champs in Las Vegas from July 29 to August 2, 2009 – where the best in the world gather to compete for the world title!
The fundraising event will be taking place on July 3, 2009 at Club West End with DJ Reddy D, DJ Azhul and DJ Eazy on the decks. The cover charge is R40 per person and there will also be give-aways and performances on the night.

George Benson wowed crowds at the 11th Annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival last night. The ten-time Grammy Award-winner, talented jazz guitar player and vocalist passionately entertained the sell-out crowd. According to his website, Benson says, “In the end, it’s about the songs and the stories. That’s what keeps the music fresh for me. That’s what keeps me coming back. If you come up with a great melody and put the right lyrics to it, I’m immediately excited.”

Loerie Awards 2011: Saturday night winners
The 33rd Annual Loerie Awards Festival Weekend began on Friday 16th September 2011, following a weeklong celebration of local creative talent as part of the Creative Week Cape Town initiative. The first awards ceremony was held on Saturday evening at a new venue, the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The Minstrel Carnival is one of the most popular events on the calendar and is watched by thousands of people every year. It's also called Tweede Nuwe Jaar, which means "Second New Year" in Afrikaans, because it traditionally takes place on January 2.
