Inspired by Bogota’s Ciclovia and projects in other cities like San Francisco and Jakarta, Open Streets in Observatory will see the usually traffic-congested Lower Main Road collectively transformed from a car-dominated road to a people-friendly public space. -

The winter months have seen a drop in temperature but entertainment is definitely heating up. There’s so much to see, do and explore in Cape Town this winter, from catching a show or local movie or exploring unknown parts of our city.

“Harbours are always interesting places to take photographs. Of all the boats along this pier, it seems to me that this particular boat that was anchored by this rope, has been there for a long time. This was evident by the rust on the boat and the discolouring of the main anchor rope by the sun,” says the photographer.

A world of wonder at the Two Oceans Aquarium – A Cape Town Tourism photo essay
I write with passion about this place, the Two Oceans Aquarium, because it is so much a part of me that I struggle to remember what life was like before the aquarium. I remember walking onto the building site, where huge, empty tanks sat like ghostly caverns in unpainted, uncarpeted, cement-strewn galleries.
Within weeks, things changed before my eyes. Water filled the I&J Predator Exhibit. Maxine, the shark, made her grand appearance, as did the snoek, which disappeared just as suddenly – down Maxine’s gullet! Thirteen-and-a-half years later, Maxine has been back in the ocean for almost four years, roaming the waters off Southern Africa.
My Wild West Coast Adventure
The West Coast, which stretches from Blaauwberg to Namaqualand, consists of 44 small towns and everything from lagoons to bird sanctuaries, and kayaking to whale watching. There’s so much more to this part of the Cape than meets the eye.
