Boats in the harbour at Hout Bay – Flickr pic of the day

“Harbours are always interesting places to take photographs. Of all the boats along this pier, it seems to me that this particular boat that was anchored by this rope, has been there for a long time. This was evident by the rust on the boat and the discolouring of the main anchor rope by the sun,” says the photographer.

48 hours in Cape Town: 5 things to do

Cape Town is not only a great value-for-money destination, it also offers good value for time. You can see and do so much in a relatively short time, if that’s all you have. Here are some things to do if you have as little as 48 hours in Cape Town.

Summer restaurants with a view

It’s no secret that Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world so why waste time not taking in the spectacular sea, mountain and city views. Here’s how you are going to be spoilt for choice…

Braai, braai, braai your boerie…

Ask any South African, and they will tell you that the braai – or barbeque – is a part of South African culture. So much so, in fact, that 24 September (Heritage Day) is now also popularly known as National Braai Day.

Fazielah’s top three festive weekend events in Cape Town

Deck the halls with cheer and holly, Cape Town fanatics, because it’s officially festive season in the Mother City! What that means, party animals, is that we are free to let our hair down and boogie like there’s no work on Monday…

Sandy Bay – the only place to hang out in Cape Town this summer

Sandy Bay is the only naturist beach in Cape Town, and attracts people of all shapes and sizes (so be prepared). “Naturist” is, of course, another word for “nudist” that people use when they don’t wish to get into any trouble.

Hello, Darling – photos of a West Coast love affair

Head north out of Cape Town on the R27, then take the R307 turn off and drive for around 70km, and you’ll arrive in quaint Darling – a picturesque village in the heart of the West Coast. A day trip to this idyllic community of vineyards and canola fields is a must for city slickers looking for a change of scenery.

12 amazing things to in Cape Town on 12/12/12

Mother City lovers, today is December 12, 2012…12/12/12, the last time our generation will ever experience a sequential date this century (the next one will be January 1, 2101!) Big deal, I hear you say… but in the spirit of keeping things fun (and in Cape Town, when are they not?), I‘ve put together a list of 12 amazing things to do in the Fairest Cape today:

Kiteboarding Big Bay’s windy strip – Charlie Browners love it

What’s not to love? Big Bay is a gorgeous stretch of surf along Cape Town’s north coast (sandwiched between Melkbosstrand and Blouberg’s Kite Beach). It delivers daily side shore winds that are near perfect for launch, topped with incredible views of Table Mountain.

For a cosmopolitan city boasting a world-famous flat-topped mountain and which is sandwiched between two oceans and three coastlines, it’s no wonder Cape Town has been awarded a number of titles.

Switched on by Cape Town’s Festive Lights

10, 9, 8, 7, 6 ... the yearly countdown to the switch-on of the festive lights by Executive Mayor of Cape Town Patricia de Lille is a sure sign that the Mother City is geared up for her summer holiday season.
