The winter months have seen a drop in temperature but entertainment is definitely heating up. There’s so much to see, do and explore in Cape Town this winter, from catching a show or local movie or exploring unknown parts of our city. It’s difficult to choose what to do in this cosmopolitan city of ours and with so few hours in a day, seeing them all in a short space of time poses a challenge. But if you need some ideas here are my top three activities that I will be doing this weekend.
Top travel website Tripadvisor has released its list of favourite restaurants in Cape Town and it’s a doozie. Profiling 25 of the best establishments in the Mother City, comments range from decor, atmosphere, service and of course the food.
Winter is an exciting time in the Mother City, and with school holidays upon us packing in as much fun as possible into their free days is a challenge. As always, Table Mountain Cableway is at the ready to provide lots of fun for youngsters to sink their teeth into, with its Kidz Season promotion.
At 1 000m above sea level, it is the world’s highest commercial abseil with a controlled descent of 112m. No previous climbing experience is needed to abseil down the mountain.

Browse any tourism website and you will find that the same words are widely used: sustainable, projects, reality, authentic, real lives, genuine, crafts, meeting the locals, engagement, helping communities etc. We were intrigued, and wondered what this said about the rest of the destination – that it is fake?
It may not be a long weekend but there is plenty to discover and explore this weekend in the Mother City. Take in a show, get your hands dirty, be wrapped up in an aria or get down with the rocking sounds at Assembly.

Noordhoek beach is a popular spot for horse rides along a white, sandy beach that stretches for miles. For visitors, there are a number of places where you can book your place on trails through the wetlands and along the beach. Contact Cape Town Tourism for more information.

Table Mountain will again be lit in green this year to celebrate St Patrick’s Day on March 17. Continuing from 2011, renewable energy will be used to light up the mountain between 20h00 and midnight local time.
