There’s always something going on in Cape Town, but the city really comes into its own in summer. The energy and vibe are contagious and you can feel the excitement in the warm air. In winter I tend to hibernate but now that summer is here, it’s time to haul out the dresses from the back of my closet and get out on the town. Anyone visiting Cape Town could easily be overwhelmed with the various options, so here are a couple my favourite spots to spend summer evenings.

#BraaiDay: The #LoveCapeTown Way

On Tuesday 24 September,2013, the weather played along beautifully and the smell of good old, South African braai meat was in the air all around Cape Town. If there’s one thing South Africans love to do, it’s braai, and by “braai” we obviously mean barbeque. What better way to celebrate our heritage than by introducing our #lovecapetown visitors to our braai culture?

I’m not a Capetonian by birth, but by breed. I’ve lived in this beautiful city since October 2010 and am still in awe of her beauty every day. Cape Town always quietens during the winter months, which means that there are some fantastic winter specials running everywhere from hotels to restaurants, spas and salons. I like to take full advantage of these in the colder months. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favourite things to do in Cape Town in winter.

Winter is the perfect time to indulge in lots of good food and fantastic wine ... after all, no one is going to see what’s under those bulky clothes for a good few months! What better way to make the most of the “eating season”, as I have affectionately dubbed it, than with one of Cape Town’s many winter specials? I was invited to experience Harbour House V&A’s new winter menu and let me tell you, it’s a treat!
