FeaturedThe Cape Town Cycle Tour announced on Wednesday that the route would be dramatically cut as a result of the fires raging across the Southern Peninsula. Cycle Tour Director David Bellair said that the decision had not been taken lightly and that it was done so with the safety of the race’s participants in mind.
Maxwell RaniMost people know of Long Street and its sleepless nights, the lovely scenery of Camps bay and its wonderful restaurants, but have you ever felt like a tourist in your own city? I did when I was recently invited to Jonkershoek Nature Reserve in Stellenbosch.
FeaturedThe wildfires in Cape Town continue to rage with firefighters working around the clock to put them out. #lovecapetown, it’s my favourite weekend of the year! Why, you ask? Well, because, friends, it’s my birthday weekend and there is nowhere I’d rather spend it than in the fabulous Mother City.
Here’s the thing I love most about my job: I get to hang out with some of the most interesting visitors to our beautiful Mother City and the coolest by far are the Vagabrothers, winners of MyDestination’s Biggest Baddest Bucket List competition, who jetted into Cape Town from Wednesday 30 October to Wednesday 6 November, 2013.
Who loves gourmet events in Cape Town? I do, it’s true, and I just CANNOT wait for the Good Food&Wine Show 2014 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from Thursday 29 May to Sunday 1 June, 2014.
I like doing things in the dark… I like them even more when they are in aid of Earth Hour and hosted in Cape Town, my responsible Mother City on Saturday 29 March, 2014.
They beat nine other finalists to win the coveted My Destination’s Biggest Baddest Bucket List Competition and travel all over the world for six months… now winners Alex and Marko Ayling (known as the Vagabrothers) are headed to gorgeous Cape Town!

I love both of my moms, Cape Town the Mother City and my vivacious amazing momma Soraya ,so when the second Sunday of May rolled around, there really was only one place of choice to celebrate their fabulousness – Tsogo Sun’s Southern Sun The Cullinan hotel.
Is there anything more tempting than the smell of a delicious chicken curry or a plate of denningvleis, prepared in the traditional Cape Malay way? In Cape Town, there are plenty of restaurants and cafés that cater for visitors and residents who prefer their meals cooked according to Halaal standards.
As the saying goes, “variety is the spice of life” and this is never more apparent that when choosing what to eat, especially in winter. As a Capetonian with a healthy appetite, though, I say why choose at all? This is why my favourite culinary establishments in Cape Town are restaurants with all-you-can-eat buffet options.
If there is one thing Capetonians are good at, other than socialising of course, it’s braaing. Whether it’s meat or fish, you can be sure that on a spectacular summer’s day (winter too!), you will find us gathered around the fire, enjoying each other’s company, the tantalising aroma of meat on the grill and our breathtaking city views.
Baby, it’s cold outside ... Cape Town lovers and friends, it’s been a chilly few days in our beloved Mother City. And if you weren’t hibernating indoors, chances are you were outside photographing the powerful hail storm on Sunday June 2, 2013.
Nothing beats grabbing a few of your pals, hopping into your car and heading out on a gorgeous summer’s day. Last December, a few of my fabulous co-workers and I, all city girls, took an unexpected sightseeing drive through the Northern Suburbs and made some wonderful discoveries:
The cooler weather we’ve been enjoying in inspirational Cape Town lately conjures up images of snuggling up before roaring fires, and feasting on the scrumptious affordable meals at the Mother City’s most delicious restaurants.
The Castle of Good Hope, a Cape Town landmark, is a prime example of a “star fort”. Built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East India Company, it’s the oldest existing colonial building in South Africa. Its position marks the original shoreline before years of land reclamation changed the Table Bay coastline.
Nothing says Christmas like a tenderly cooked turkey or ham, sweetly mixed eggnog or chilled champagne and decadent desserts. If slaving away in your kitchen to create these mouthwatering delicacies makes you want to run for the hills, fear not – there is a wide range of stellar restaurants in sunny Cape Town, ready to relieve you of your culinary duties.
American fast-food chain, Burger King, opens its doors in Cape Town for the first time tomorrow.
Nothing turns my pages quite like a marvellous second-hand bookstore and in inspirational Cape Town, there are plenty to keep me happy. As fantastic as Kindles, Nooks and iPads are, there is nothing the feel of a book in your hands and it is for this reason that having a plethora of great second-hand bookstores in the Mother City is such a joy. Join me at the following bookstores in Cape Town and rediscover the wonder of reading.
Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Table Mountain Cableway, Happy Birthday to you!
They came in their thousands, they screamed at the top of their lungs and boy, did they Believe! Canadian pop star Justin Bieber had scores of Cape Town’s teenage girls (and their moms) enthralled at his sold-out concert at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday 8 May, 2013.
