When the clock strikes 12 in Cape Town on December 31, 2013, where will you be? If you are like most laid-back Capetonians, chances are you haven’t even thought of what you want to do to ring in 2014.
If there is one thing Capetonians are good at – other than socialising, of course – it’s braaing. Whether it’s meat or fish, you can be sure that on a spectacular summer’s day (or even on a winter’s day), you will find us gathered around the fire, enjoying each other’s company, the tantalising aroma of meat on the grill and our breathtaking city views.
Without a doubt, one of the most interesting, humbling and thought-provoking day excursions any visitor to Cape Town can undertake involves visiting some of the places around the city associated with Nelson Mandela, who turned 94 on July 18, 2012.
There’s nothing I love more than great live music in my groovy hometown and #lovecapetown friends, let me tell you, this weekend the Mother City is going to rock!
School’s out, #lovecapetown Moms and Dads, and these summer holidays, there is plenty to see and do with your little ones in the Mother City. Get out into the sunshine and enjoy a variety of fun activities, take in a show or spend the day at the beach with the little people in your life:
They came in their thousands, dressed in outrageous costumes, braving the rain to raise funds for a worthy cause… the vibe was electrifying at the 2013 Twilight Team Run on Tuesday 3 December, 2013.
Cape Town can, with some careful planning, deliver a really enjoyable holiday experience for visitors with special access needs. Whilst we have some distance to go to being a completely Universally Accessible (UA) destination, awareness is on the rise and with it the number of improvements made to our city.
What better way to kick off the holiday season than with the Festival of Lights to kick off the four-week countdown to WDC2014
Here’s what we know for sure: the Mother City is our favourite city but now, it’s official: Cape Town has been voted The Telegraph Travel Awards’ Favourite City for 2013, for the second time running!
Can you feel it, #lovecapetown? Your amazing weekend in the pulsating Mother City is on its way! There is so much to do so why not join me at the following events from Friday 29 November to Sunday 1 December, 2013:
Here’s the thing I love most about my job: I get to hang out with some of the most interesting visitors to our beautiful Mother City and the coolest by far are the Vagabrothers, winners of MyDestination’s Biggest Baddest Bucket List competition, who jetted into Cape Town from Wednesday 30 October to Wednesday 6 November, 2013.
The countdown for the switch on of Cape Town’s Festival of Lights began on Tuesday 19 November 2013, when the Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia de Lille, was joined by Cape Town entertainers on Adderley Street for a successful test run of preparations ahead of the main event on 1 December 2013.
Long, lazy hot days are heading to gorgeous Cape Town and to celebrate, the iconic Cape Point is hosting an amazing “Countdown to Summer” competition.

Cheers to the freakin’ weekend in #lovecapetown! There is just so much to do in your beloved Mother City so why not frolic with impressive wildlife in the Winelands, colour yourself happy on an ostrich farm or get your oriental dance on at the seaside?
The great thing about experiencing Cape Town is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to have fun. Usually around this time of year most of us need to budget rather than blast our money, so why not embrace the philosophy that the best things in life are free … or perhaps rather, very affordable.
If you were in Cape Town on the 31st of December 2013, you would have heard the music, the shouts of excitement and the official countdown to 2014 ringing out though the streets as the Mother City welcomed the new year in style.
The countdown has just about begun and 2014 is just a few hours and one BIG party away. If you’re still undecided about how you’ll be celebrating when the clock strikes midnight, check out our blog post for the low down on everything you need to know about NYE 2013/2014 in the Mother City.
There is no denying that summer in Cape Town is pure magic. Long, long days, salty skin, tanned bodies and beachy hair…these are the things that a Cape Town summer is made of. Of course, not every day can be spent on the beach, so it’s important to make the most of the extra hours summer brings with daily activities after work. I try to make a concerted effort to spend as many hours as possible outdoors during summer and these are a few spots where I’ll be doing that.
Hands up, folks, who’s ready for a thrilling weekend in #lovecapetown? Whether you’re a wine lover, fitness and colour fanatic or a classical music devotee, there is plenty to see and enjoy in the Mother City. Join me at the following events from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 October, 2013:

Monday 23 September, 2013, saw me heading out of the Mother City along the West Coast road and bouncing in a mini van through the veld towards the Darling Hills where, between the Kapokberg on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, lies a gem of a wine farm called Groote Post.
