Rob PetersThe song goes that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. No argument there, because I’ve never met a girl who doesn’t like something with a nice sheen to it. But then they work pretty well for guys too, particularly when they’re trying to impress said girls by introducing them to their new BFF.
Bianca ColemanFor a city with such a magnificent coastline, there are surprisingly few five star hotels on the water’s edge, and even less that combine this with such convenient proximity to so many of Cape Town’s top tourist attractions. The Radisson Blu Waterfront is one that stands out amongst the crowd.
Marisah Smith and Fazielah WilliamsIf there is one thing Capetonians are good at - other than socialising, of course - it’s braaing. Whether it’s meat or fish, you can be sure that on a spectacular summer’s day (or even on a winter’s day), you will find us gathered around the fire, enjoying each other’s company, the tantalising aroma of meat on the grill and our breathtaking city views.
FeaturedTHE gin floodgates have been opened in Cape Town. Not only do we have at least three dedicated gin bars and at least two locally produced tonic waters, but it’s becoming a popular spirit to distill with new brands emerging into the market all the time.

The winter months have seen a drop in temperature but entertainment is definitely heating up. There’s so much to see, do and explore in Cape Town this winter, from catching a show or local movie or exploring unknown parts of our city. It’s difficult to choose what to do in this cosmopolitan city of ours and with so few hours in a day, seeing them all in a short space of time poses a challenge. But if you need some ideas here are my top three activities that I will be doing this weekend.
Cape Town is set to host a wedding of royal proportions as Hollywood royalty are rumoured to be tying the knot here later this year. It’s still unconfirmed by the couple themselves but reports have surfaced that Academy Award winner Halle Berry and her fiancé, french actor Olivier Martinez, are set to wed in Cape Town later this year in a lavish ceremony.
International Museum Day takes place on Friday May 18, 2012 and the Mother City has a host of FREE fun and interactive activities lined up to mark the occasion.
Browse any tourism website and you will find that the same words are widely used: sustainable, projects, reality, authentic, real lives, genuine, crafts, meeting the locals, engagement, helping communities etc. We were intrigued, and wondered what this said about the rest of the destination – that it is fake?
It may not be a long weekend but there is plenty to discover and explore this weekend in the Mother City. Take in a show, get your hands dirty, be wrapped up in an aria or get down with the rocking sounds at Assembly.
National Geographic’s Andrew Evans, aka @WheresAndrew, continued his exploration of Cape Town this weekend making his way south to the Cape Point Nature Reserve.
National Geographic presenter, Digital Nomad Andrew Evans, who can be followed on @WheresAndrew, spent today getting to know more about Cape Town’s heritage and sampling more of its food.

This year the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway will be switching off all the lights around Table Mountain, except for emergency lights, and the City of Cape Town will also be switching off the spot lights on Table Mountain and in its own buildings for one hour in support of Earth Hour 2012.
