Thousands of participants and spectators are set to descend on picturesque Cape Town for the 2012 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon this Easter weekend, April 6 and 7, 2012. Known as “the world’s most beautiful marathon”, this year’s event will take runners on a scenic tour of the Peninsula, with the Half Marathon set in the Southern Suburbs and the Ultra Marathon along the Chapman’s Peak Route.
In 2012, Cape Town Tourism rocked the social networking world by hosting four international bloggers on a series of experiences around our hometown and getting them to share their adventures on their platforms. This ultimately contributed to us winning the Travel + Leisure SMITTY Awards (Social Media in Travel + Tourism Awards) in the category Best Overall Use of Social Media, CVB, Global. This Africa Day, Cape Town’s vibrant locals and visitors will be taking to the streets ... the Opens Streets in Observatory, that is, on Saturday May 25, 2013. Inspired by Bogota’s Ciclovia and projects in other cities like San Francisco and Jakarta, Open Streets in Observatory will see the usually traffic-congested Lower Main Road collectively transformed from a car-dominated road to a people-friendly public space.
The West Coast, which stretches from Blaauwberg to Namaqualand, consists of 44 small towns and everything from lagoons to bird sanctuaries, and kayaking to whale watching. There’s so much more to this part of the Cape than meets the eye.
