The Theatre in the District is an iconic remnant of what was once a bustling, colourful Cape community. During South Africa’s apartheid years, District Six was one of many areas where communities were forcibly removed and buildings flattened. Having dodged the bulldozers, the theatre stands as a reminder of days gone by, through its facade and in the productions held within.

New productions are constantly under way, so the billboard changes regularly. Every Monday, catch Woza Cape Town. This popular show is a treasure trove of South African music, dance, poetry and song. It’s “a human story which looks out beyond a history of pain and despair and breathes life and hope into Cape Town’s future”.
