Scarborough

Along the winding road from Kommetjie past Witsands and Misty Cliffs, approximately an hour’s drive from Cape Town city centre, you’ll come upon a pretty seaside village flanked by pristine beaches, scenic mountains and a camel-shaped rock formation – this is Scarborough.

Peaceful haven
With its stunning views of the Cape of Good Hope, which lies in the Table Mountain National Park, Scarborough is a peaceful haven where the tempo of life has slowed sufficiently for visitors to take in its beautiful surrounds. Scarborough is a conservation-minded village where houses and beach homes nestle on the slopes of Slangkop and Red Hill, overlooking the powerful Atlantic Ocean.

Where to stay

Attractions
Scarborough may be small, but don’t be fooled, there’s plenty to keep a visitor busy – between beauty sleeps!

Wildlife
Shusters Bay is the home of the Cape clawless otter, and a perfect whale-watching location that lies on the June to November migratory path of the majestic southern right whales.

Beaches
What would Cape Town be without its stunning beaches? Scarborough, Witsands and Misty don’t disappoint in this department either, especially when the sun slowly sinks into the sea at day’s end. There are long, white beaches with few footprints, so get out there and enjoy a revitalising walk or see if you can spot some of the region’s seabirds.

These three beaches are also ideally suited to bodyboarding, surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing. Anglers will find many tempting spots to cast their lines, but ensure that you have a permit, because this part of Cape Town’s coast falls within a marine protected area.

Vineyards
Wine is synonymous with Cape Town and the surrounding vineyards produce award-winning chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and semillon wines. The Cape Point vineyard encompasses the Noordhoek and Scarborough estates, and although they’re not open for tastings, local restaurants proudly display and sell their wines.

Newlands rugby stadium

Newlands rugby stadium, officially known as DHL Newlands, is where the Springboks play their international matches in Cape Town. The stadium is also the home ground of the Stormers and Western Province rugby teams.

Ratanga Junction

Picture this ... You’re strapped into your seat, hanging under the track of a looping roller coaster that’s hurtling down a twisting track at about 100km/h. Screams fill the air, and you’re not sure you’ll live to savour the memories ... If that sounds like fun to you, then Ratanga Junction’s the place you need to be!

Lion’s Head

Lion’s Head forms part of the Table Mountain range and provides a scenic backdrop to the City of Cape Town.
