The Cape Town Science Centre officially opened its doors at its new premises in Observatory on December 28, 2011, with a mission to make a hands-on contribution
to South Africa’s future by strengthening its science and technology culture through interactive methods of teaching.

The centre attracts between 126 000 and 138 000 visitors annually, and has more than 300 permanent interactive exhibits.

Visitors can expect a wide variety of interactive entertainment at the centre. From science shows to curriculum-based workshops and science camps, there is loads on offer. Make sure you visit the new outdoor area to see how the centre uses science to save water by harvesting rainwater; you can also test your adversaries on the giant chess set.

The Cape Town Science Centre offers free internet access to all visitors.

The centre is open every day from 09h00 to 16h30. Entry costs R38 for adults, student and children three to 18; R15 for pensioners; and R33 each for groups of 10 or more. Take advantage of the annual membership fees, which allow unlimited entry to the centre for a year. Membership fees range from R230 for a single person to R610 for a group of four.
