The Best Cape Town Markets to Enjoy

Oranjezicht Market

Cape Town offers an excellent array of local markets. With everything from food markets to craft and antique markets and even specialist gift markets – there really is a market for everyone to enjoy in the Mother City.

The Oranjezicht City (OZCF) Farm Market

As one of Cape Town’s most consistently popular markets, this vibrant Waterfront-based market needs little introduction. The OZCF market focuses on fresh, local and seasonal healthy produce, delicious, yet health-conscious food and drinks and even a selection of plants, fresh cut flowers and gardening-related items too.

Best of all, all dietary requirements are catered to, including vegan- and vegetarian-friendly and even gluten-, dairy- and sugar-free-options.

Usually held on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), the market has also introduced an exciting, limited Wednesday night market to the mix – perfect for stocking up on all your healthy produce and goodies during summertime (from November to March)!

When: Wednesday (limited market – Nov – Mar) from 5pm to 9pm; Saturdays (full market) from 08:15am to 2pm and Sunday from 9am to 2 pm

The Bay Harbour Market

Situated in the heart of Hout Bay, this popular market is one of Cape Town’s favourite city markets. The Bay Harbour Market is a place where foodies, music lovers and shoppers can come together to enjoy ‘eats, beats and arts and crafts’ in one authentic space (a fish factory within a working harbour).

The market is as much a warm, welcoming social experience as it is a fun market outing. Here, all ages and cultures come together to celebrate the unique spirit of South Africa.

When: Friday from 5pm to 9pm and Saturday/Sunday from 9.30am to 4pm

This well-loved, longstanding outdoor market, which offers incredible local craft-, food- and designer-stalls, is one of the finest markets in the Mother City.

Here, on the last Sunday of every month, you can shop for everything from original, handcrafted items to tasty food, craft beers and even wine by the glass.

Best of all, friendly, leashed dogs are welcome so the whole family gets to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine in one of the city’s leafiest suburbs, Newlands.

When: Usually on the last Sunday of the month

Held at the Edgemead Community Centre, this special Christmas market is set to feature more than 200 of the Cape’s finest crafters – with some travelling from as far as George and Montagu to sell their goods.

Products are of the highest quality – and the Christmas lights and festive spirit are sure to set the tone for a wonderful Christmas market.
