Soaring in a helicopter or plane over the broad expanse of Cape Town, from its majestic mountain ranges down to its sparkling ocean, is a wonderful introduction to the diversity offered by South Africa’s Mother City.

Civair Helicopters and Aeroplanes (www.civair.co.za) has been in the aviation business since 1989 and has established itself as one of the safest and most reliable air charter operations in the industry. The company is licensed in terms of the Air Service Regulations and South African Civil Aviation Authority and has an extensive array of air-service licences, so clients are assured of a total aviation solution. Civair offers breathtaking sightseeing flights over the Cape Peninsula and has a flight school for those who want to earn their own wings. A number of instructors are dual-rated and equally proficient in helicopters and airplanes. The school also provides commercial and instructors’ training.

There are many other accredited operators, such as Cape Town Helicopter Tours, Nac Makana Helicopters, Wings over Africa and Cape Town Helicopters. They offer a variety of flights, including private charters, scenic tours, helicopter and wine-tasting private tours, helicopter film and movie shoots and even an ex-Vietnam Huey flip!
