Green Point has been called the Soho of Cape Town – with its funky restaurants and busy nightclubs, the place has an energy all of its own.
Green Point is all about location, location, location. Wedged between Table Bay, Signal Hill, Sea Point, the V&A Waterfront and the city centre, this little village is in the middle of all the local action.
Because it’s so central, there is a lot to see and do in the area. Take a long walk along the promenade right next to the Atlantic Ocean; pop into the flea market next to Cape Town Stadium (every Sunday) where you can pick up fantastic curios from around the African continent.
Take a walk to the top of Lion’s Head and enjoy the panoramic views of the city. Alternatively, drive to the top of Signal Hill, again to witness the gorgeous views.
Pay a visit to Green Point lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in South Africa, which dates back to 1824.
There are plenty of restaurants in Green Point. Make sure you try Belugas (+ 27 21 418 2948; www.beluga.co.za ) a favourite among the models and celebrity crowd, and the Wang Thai (+27 21 421 8702; www.wangthai.co.za), renowned for its authentic Thai menu.
Coffee spots like Vida e Caffe (+27 21 434 7266; www.caffe.co.za), News Café (+27 21 434 6196; www.newscafe.co.za) and Giovanni’s Deli (+27 21 434 6893) are great places to hang out and people-watch, and Melissa’s (+27 21 434 1719; www.melissas.co.za) in Main Road is great for anything organic.
For sun, sand and sea, the beautiful beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton are a stone’s throw away.
There is big excitement around Cape Town Stadium, which is getting ready to host the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. Upon completion, this stadium will have a seating capacity of 70 000. No doubt, the soccer fans are going to love the suburb of Green Point and its proximity to so many fun activities and attractions.
