Cape Town kids

Keeping children occupied over weekends and during school holidays is always a challenge for busy parents, but those on holiday in Cape Town have a wide choice when it comes to entertaining their little ones.
Parents need not fear that their kids will suffer from cabin fever, even during winter. Not only is the climate conducive to plenty of outdoor rough-and-tumble, but there are also indoor activities galore to keep little people content.
There’s a host of activities designed with children in mind. Here are some of the more popular attractions that exercise little minds and bodies:
- Blue Train – A miniature train with a view of the ocean at Mouille Point. Don’t miss a walk along the seafront and playing on the jungle gym, slides and swings.
- Artjamming – paint, sponge or spray on a blank canvas at this art concept store at various locations across the city.
- Indoor go-karting – high-speed karting around a winding track in Kenilworth (for older kids). Visit www.karting.co.za for more information.
- Scratch patch – search for special gemstones. There is a venue in Simon’s Town and at the V&A Waterfront.
- Clay Café – paint designs on ceramics at this venue in Hout Bay.
- Bizzy Bodies – Cape Town’s biggest indoor play gym has venues in Cape Town and Somerset West.
- Lil’dreys – 1001 workshops for kids (painting, music, watercolours, gardening, scrap wood, fairy wings, yoga, beading and tons of other fun stuff).
- Jimmy Jungles – An indoor adventure playground that offers supervised, secure facilities for kiddies, located in Claremont.
- The Iziko South African Museum and Planetarium – Kids can view dinosaur models, explore reconstructed whales and watch the museum’s “theatre of stars”.
- Two Oceans Aquarium – Cape Town’s Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront caters well for kids of all ages through features like interactive displays, where children can touch starfish and kelp.
