Canal Walk Shopping Centre
Canal Walk is one of the biggest shopping centres in the southern hemisphere.
Canal Walk Shopping Centre merges the world’s most desirable brands with shopping convenience, and inspired entertainment with everyday leisure – all in a commanding, majestic setting.
With 400 stores representing leading local and global brands, Canal Walk offers arguably the most comprehensive and compelling lifestyle shopping experience in South Africa, including the widest selection of specialty stores in the southern emisphere.
It is located at Century City, midway between the Cape Town and Bellville central business districts. Canal Walk is the main catalyst driving further commercial and residential development on site. Situated a convenient 10-minute drive from Cape Town’s city centre, Canal Walk enjoys direct access from the N1 highway. Scheduled tourism shuttles offer luxury transport between the city, Atlantic Seaboard hotels and Canal Walk.
The centre includes all national major retailers, some of whom have a flagship store at Canal Walk. The largest anchor is department store Woolworths, with its biggest-ever first-phase store of 9 000 metres squared. Nu-Metro has its largest (17-cinema) multiplex in the country, and grocery stores Pick n Pay and Checkers, and fashion department store Edgars, all trade from shops that are 6 000 or 7 000 metres squared.
Canal Walk, with more than 20-million shoppers visiting the centre each year, continues to attract leading international retail brands such Puma, Pringle of Scotland, Sissy Boy, Adidas, La Senza, Nike, Lacoste, Jeep, Levisons – which offers glamorous brands such as Hugo Boss and Mont Blanc – Rockport, Nike, Soviet, Diesel, Nine West, Morgon de Toi, Accessorize, Fossil, The Body Shop, Uzzi, Timberland and Guess. Newer brands that have joined the centre are Canterbury, Ecko Unltd, Converse, Mango and Crabtree & Evelyn.
At the epicentre of Canal Walk is a large entertainment zone featuring a sophisticated and technologically advanced promotions court as well as a fast food court. The entertainment zone also has Canal Walk’s in-house television station – CWTV – with two giant LED screens and 32 plasma screens.
Other features at Canal Walk include its own in-centre state-of-the-art medical and wellness centre, and spectacular views of Table Mountain and the Grand Canal from the popular outdoor patios of Canal Walk’s restaurants, cafés and coffee shops.
Neighbouring attractions include the Ratanga Junction theme park with more than 30 rides and attractions, and Intaka Island, a 16ha wetlands conservation area rich in bird life and indigenous flora. Intaka Island provides a green lung and wonderful eco-tourism attraction for the Western Cape. It comprises 8ha of reconstructed highly sensitive wetlands, among the last remaining of their kind in the world.
Secure customer parking is provided in 6 500 parking bays, many of which are under cover. Canal Walk is open daily until 21h00.
