Take a guided walk in the mountains with the organisation Baboon Matters (www.baboonmatters.org.za) and spend time watching the wild chacma baboons.

Baboon Matters, a team consisting of city and conservation authorities as well as residents and organisations, has developed the inspiring “Walking with Baboons” project in an effort to create a level of awareness and appreciation for these creatures. The aim is to bridge the gap between the wild world of the chacma baboons of the Cape Peninsula and the world of their human cousins.

The baboons of this region have come under threat as urbanisation has reduced their natural habitat and brought them into conflict with humans. Monitors employed by Baboon Matters work long hours to keep the animals safely out of residential areas.

Baboon Matters will guide you on a two- or three-hour walk across the mountains around Cape Town’s South Peninsula to see the Da Gama and Kommetjie troops, and the proceeds of the walk will help keep the project going. You can spend time with the primates as they eat, play and socialise.

Contact Cape Town Tourism for more information on this interesting experience and for lots more information on nature and wildlife trips.
