Muizenberg and Kalk Bay Theatres
Masque Theatre - Muizenberg
The Masque Theatre is an intimate theatre on the Main Road (M4) in Muizenberg, regularly presenting a variety of plays, musicals, ballet recitals and comedy shows. The theatre was founded in 1959 to foster and maintain a universal love for theatre, and this dream continues to live on in the Muizenberg community today through the Masque theatre and her offerings. Ravaged by fire in 1999, a contemporary theatre rose like a phoenix from the literal ashes and today is a wonderful addition to the Cape’s theatrical community.
A cabaret of offerings
The 174 seat theatre, typical of most small community theatres, has an oft changing and wide variety of productions to chose from and information on the upcoming programme is best accessed via the theatre’s website or from the Cape Town Tourism’s office in Muizenberg. The theatre has a fully licensed bar and offers snacks but no restaurant.

Today the petit building, constructed in 1876, is alive and well as a vibrant and well-supported enterprise serving the theatre-loving folk of the South Peninsula.
Theatre with a view inside and out
With an incredible view of Cape Town’s seafront, on the quirky and bohemian main road of Kalk Bay stands this unique and intimate theatre. Built lovingly by hand inside the heritage protected old Church, the theatre marries both an eclectic and historic atmosphere giving you a truly special and wonderfully Cape Town experience.
A seat on the beech
The theatre has 78 beech wood seats in the audience, set in a three quarter round, of which eleven are cozy love seats for two. The seating for shows is generally unreserved allowing one to select preferred seats on arrival prior to your meal. The stage is set on the floor mere centimetres from the front row providing the most intimate of theatrical experiences and the backdrop of the performance area boasts the original stone walls of the old church building.
Good food by any other name
The restaurant upstairs is lively and inviting, serving mouth-watering meals to pre-show diners, and varying decadent desserts. The dinners are Mediterranean inspired and feature local produce with a vegetarian offering always available and a fully stocked bar.
