Factory shopping

Although Cape Town offers the tourist an overwhelming choice of some of South Africa’s finest shopping malls and markets, it can make a pleasant change to visit a few of the city’s top rated factory shops, where bargains are often found.

Both Kenilworth and Bellville are home to an Access Park, a bargain-hunter’s Mecca comprising 70 outlet stores and 80 factory shops (including a Nike Factory Store) where you’ll find many items at half the cost of conventional outlets. You will find the Bellville branch on Van Riebeeck Road, Kuilsriver, and the Kenilworth stores near the M5 on the corner of Chichester and Doncaster roads.

In terms of fashion factory stores, Radeen Fashions Factory Shop in Elsies River avails ladies’ fashion at affordable prices and three China Town zones (in Ottery, Century City and Parow) where everything from clothing and shoes to kids toys and home décor can be found.

The New Balance factory shop in Kenilworth Access Park and at Prime Park in Mocke Road, Diep River is great for sportswear apparel.

After shoes? The Green Cross Value Store can be found in Gunner’s Circle, Epping and Jordan Footwear Factory Outlets around the city - in Woodstock, Tokai, Bellville, Somerset West, Montague Gardens, Good wood and Elsies River.

If you are looking for luggage and travel accessories, you could visit the Hippo Group Factory Shop in Bellville, which features a massive range of bags, suitcases, folders, wallets and more.

For cosmetic products, Indigo Cosmetics Factory Shop in Epping is very popular, stocking top international brands such as Yardley and Rimmel. Cosmetic “XS”, Celie Road in Tokai is another great option for cosmetics.

On the outskirts of Pinelands can be found another little-known gem; Merrypak – for all your packaging, gift wrap and scrap booking needs (Morningside Road, N’dabeni).
