Erinvale Golf Course

Said to be one of the best residential golf courses in South Africa, Erinvale Golf Course is one of Cape Town’s golfing treasures.

Situated in scenic Somerset West, Erinvale Golf Course was designed by arguably the most famous South African golfer – Gary Player.

The exclusive Erinvale Golf Club is nestled in the middle of the Erinvale Estate, at the foothills of the Helderberg and Hottentots Holland Mountains. The course has been the host of the World Cup 1996 and South African Airways Open championships in 2003 and 2004.

Majestic mountains and views of the ocean make this golf course a popular choice. The estate has two distinctive and different terrains.

The first nine holes are played on the flat, while the back nine make their way up the mountains – providing something of a challenge to even the most seasoned golfer.

There is no doubt that this manicured par-72 championship course boasts some of the country’s most spectacular holes.

As Player once said: “As you play through the back nine holes, you climb dramatically up the mountain to enjoy the spectacular view. The sea in the distance and the many wineries for which the Cape is famous are further attractions … I think this will be one of the best golf courses in South Africa.”

The Clubhouse is built on three levels overlooking the 9th and 18th holes of the championship Golf Course. A Halfway House stop is compulsory, which enables visitors to enjoy a light meal and some refreshment before heading off to complete the final nine holes.

The Terrace Bar is situated at ground level of The Clubhouse and is a favourite venue after a gruelling game of golf. Nothing quite beats the sun going down over the mountains as you sip a gin and tonic, and congratulate yourself on a day well spent.

When playing a round at Erinvale Golf Course in Somerset West, the ideal place to stay over or dine is the neighbouring Erinvale Estate Hotel & Spa. This Cape Dutch-style boutique hotel, owned by Louis Group Hotels, Spas & Vineyards, has sophisticated conferencing facilities, a spa for all your pampering needs and luxury accommodation. A number of dining options are also on offer, including the Magnolia Restaurant, which is open for dinner, and the Irish-style Skelligs Pub, which has a diverse menu of traditional pub fare.

Now you can stay and play in the same beautiful area of the Helderberg, which offers a number of other appealing leisure options, such as the “Heart of the Helderberg” taste experience. Taste wine, coffee, chocolate, cheese and olives at three famous estates – Loursensford, Vergelegen and Morgenster – all in close proximity to the hotel.

Guests of the hotel get preferential rates to play at Erinvale Golf Course and the hotel’s friendly staff will handle any requests to tour neighbouring wine estates. Visit www.erinvale.co.za.
