Cape Town Stadium is fully accessible to people with disabilities. However, for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, certain sections of the Stadium will have restricted access and will therefore not be accessible to all spectators.

During this period the Match Day shuttle will operate from the Civic Centre bus station, transporting people to the Stadium bus station. However, it will not travel to the Granger Bay bus station, as Granger Bay Boulevard will be closed. This means spectators will have to walk approximately 500m to the Stadium. Although the Match Day shuttle is wheelchair friendly, people with restricted mobility will have to navigate a ramp to enter the Stadium on the second level.

In its planning the City of Cape Town acknowledged that both the distance of 500m and the ramp may be challenging to people with mobility impairments and wheelchair users. The special needs Match Day shuttle will transport qualifying spectators from the Special Needs Hub at the Civic Centre directly into the Stadium at Level 1, from where elevators will take them to their required level.

Who qualifies to use the Special Needs Shuttle?

All spectators with a wheelchair ticket as issued by FIFA qualify to use this shuttle. Spectators with a doctor’s certificate stating that they are unable to walk a distance of 500m may also book a place on the shuttle. A maximum of one person with a match ticket may accompany those booked on the special needs shuttle. However, only spectators and their companion who book a seat on the shuttle will be transported.

How do I book a place on the Special Needs Shuttle?

In South Africa spectators may call the toll free number 0800 600 895 between 09:00 and 12:00 daily to book their places. Spectators currently outside of South Africa may book their places by sending an e-mail to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). It is necessary to verify that you qualify for the service. Prospective passengers must e-mail or fax a copy of their wheelchair match ticket or doctor’s certificate to +27 (0)21 448 7873 and will receive confirmation of their bookings via e-mail or fax. Please retain your e-mail confirmation as you will require it to gain entrance to the Special Needs Hub at the Civic Centre in Cape Town.

By when must bookings be made?

All bookings must be made and confirmed one week before the specific match for which you require transport. However, spectators who wish to use this service are encouraged to book their places as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

How do I get to the Special Needs Transport Hub?

The Hub is situated on the ground floor of the Civic Centre in Cape Town with entry from Old Marine Drive in Cape Town. Signage will guide you from Hertzog Boulevard to the entrance. You may use a metered taxi, shuttle service or self drive vehicle to the Hub. Please note that the rail services are not fully wheelchair accessible.

How does the service work on a Match day?

On arrival, spectators will be required to produce a confirmation e-mail or fax stating that they have been booked on the service. This confirmation will allow fans entrance to the ground floor parking area. Volunteers will direct passengers to either the drop-and-go area or the parking area - where they disembark and move to the special needs shuttle. Security and bag checks will be performed and all prohibited items will be confiscated.

The shuttle will transport passengers to the Stadium, where they can disembark at one of two designated elevators. After the match, passengers will be collected from the same point and transported back to the Special Needs Hub.

What do I pay to use this shuttle?

This service is free to all match ticket holders.

What are the operational hours of this shuttle?

The shuttle will operate from four hours before kick-off until three hours after the final whistle. It is important to note that the shuttle can transport a maximum of three wheelchair users per vehicle. It is of the utmost importance that Special Needs Shuttle passengers arrive at the Hub as early as possible, but not before four hours prior to kick-off, in order to ensure that they arrive in time for the start of the match. Additional vehicles will be available to transport passengers after the match to ensure the shortest possible waiting period after final whistle.
