Park and ride
No public parking will be available in and around the Cape Town Stadium on match days, with certain roads being closed for the duration of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
Parking in the CBD will also be severely restricted, due to road closures on match days, and with parking being reserved for logistical uses related to the event.
All visitors to the city centre, including commuters, are therefore encouraged to make use of the public transport system during the event.
Match goers are encouraged to travel to the Grand Parade to join in the fun at the official Cape Town FIFA Fan Fest™, open daily between 11h00 and 23h00.
From there, visitors can either follow the pedestrian Fan Walk through the CBD to Green Point, or they can catch the new inner-city bus service, MYCiTi, at the corner of Darling and Buitenkant Streets and change at Civic Centre Station to the Stadium shuttle.
The following areas will operate as park-and-ride facilities every day for the duration of the World Cup.
All days:
- Fish Hoek Station: Beach parking
- Ottery Station: Parking at Ottery Youth Care Centre opposite Church
- Retreat Station: Normal parking
- Claremont Station: On Palmyra Road adjacent to the Sharks supporters’ club
- Goodwood Station: Parking at GrandWest Casino
- Century City Station: Parking at Century City and Canal Walk
- Oosterzee Station: Parking at Settler’s High School
- Brackenfell Station: Normal parking
- Kuilsrivier Station: Normal parking
- Strand Station: Parking at the municipal building across the road from the station
On match days only, the following facilities will operate from four hours before kick-off and until four hours after the final whistle:
- Kronendal Primary School sports field off Andrews Road in Hout Bay
- Camps Bay High School sports field in Maiden’s Cove off Victoria Road
- University of Cape Town’s Upper Campus in Rondebosch
These facilities will operate from four hours before kick off until four hours after the final whistle. Parking at the University of Cape Town will be free while a nominal charge will apply at other venues.
Additional security will also be available park-and-ride facilities in Eersterivier, Heideveld, Khayelitsha, Kraaifontein, Langa, Lansdowne, Monte Vista, Muizenberg, Nyanga, Philippi and Plumstead.
All park-and-ride venues will be signposted, security will be provided and volunteers will be available to assist with any queries. While trains will stop at all other stations, no additional security and information will be provided at these points.
A match ticket provides free rail transport into the city centre before kickoff and on the return trip after the match. This is only applicable to match ticket holders on the day of that match.

Three park and ride venues for buses
Three park and ride venues are provided in areas not served by rail, to allow spectators access to the stadium without having to search for parking in the CBD. Services from the University of Cape Town (UCT) will be free to all persons holding match tickets, while a fare dependant on distance travelled will apply to the Kronendal Primary School and Camps Bay High School park and rides. The parking at the two school fields will attract a nominal charge. The three bus-based park and ride sites are:

Park and ride cost
Parking in regular parking areas around train stations is generally free. Parking at temporary parking areas is typically on private land where a nominal charge will apply.
Park and ride from GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World and Canal Walk
Soccer fans not wanting to linger in the CBD after the final whistle blows can leave their cars at park-and-ride facilities, which offer entertainment as well.
GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World has made 1000 additional parking bays available at the complex. Fans can park there and can catch the special trains leaving from the Goodwood Railway Station at the back of the complex. As the largest entertainment destination of its kind in South Africa, GrandWest offers 24-hour secure entertainment including casinos, restaurants, fast-food courts, bars, a nightclub, theatre, cinema complex, children’s entertainment centre, ice rink, bowling alley and the multi-purpose Grand Arena. And all this under one roof. Anyone in possession of an official stadium ticket will be granted free travel on the trains.
However, the City shuttle service between Cape Town station and the stadium should not be confused with the complimentary bus shuttle service which GrandWest is offering from the complex to hotels in the city centre, Waterfront and GrandWest for the duration of the World Cup.
The GrandWest shuttle service consists of two buses operating 14 circular trips every day, except for Cape Town match days, on the hour from 11h00 to 01h30, until 11 July. The branded buses have capacity for 66 passengers seated, with 25 passengers standing.
They will depart from the GrandWest main entrance opposite the La Famiglia, dropping off passengers at the Cape Sun, Protea Victoria Junction Hotel, Cape Royale Hotel, Radisson Hotel, Table Bay Hotel, Victoria & Alfred Hotel, CTICC and the Westin Grand Hotel. Anyone based in the city wishing to travel to GrandWest, can simply hop on the bus for the return trip.
Canal Walk is Cape Town’s biggest shopping mecca, with a number of restaurants, coffee shops and fast food outlets in addition to cinemas and an entertainment area for children. Some 2500 parking bays have been made available and visitors can catch buses to the city centre from Ratanga Junction.
