The V&A Waterfront, one of South Africa’s most popular tourist attractions, is a great place to watch live 2010 FIFA World Cup™ matches and enjoy various other forms of entertainment.
Some highlights are listed below.
Wheel of Excellence
A giant 50m observation wheel, similar to those in London and Paris, will grace the Mother City’s skyline for up to six months. The Wheel of Excellence, a first for Cape Town and South Africa, is a unique way to enjoy panoramic views of Table Mountain, City Bowl and Robben Island, stretching as far afield as Paarl. In any one of 36 air-conditioned cabins, friends and family can sit back and savour the sights on a 20 minute round-trip. For those who seek a little more luxury, sparkling wine and canapés are available in one of the exclusive VIP cabins.
adidas Football experience
Football fans can show off their skills at a mini-pitch football facility and goal wall at Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre from June 11. Those in need of a breather at half-time can learn more about iconic adidas players by getting personal with their life-like cut-outs.
adidas “be a movie star” interactive football with Lionel Messi avatar
Football fans are invited to a virtual kick-off with some of the world’s best players, including Lionel Messi – or at least his 2D avatar. Part of FC Barcelona, Argentina’s World Cup team and known, quite simply, as one the best players in the world today, Messi has indisputable international appeal. Over the World Cup period, you can be filmed against a green screen going head-to-head with Messi and his legendary dribbling skills. Participants can download their personal video clip once the game is over.
MTN Fan Zone
The MTN Fan Zone in Clock Tower Square will provide the very best in ‘Sportainement’ to up to 500 football fans. In addition to live screenings of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ matches, live entertainment, giveaways and interactive on-screen and on-stage games will be on offer.
Quay Four: Spectator Zone
Quay Four will be extending its offerings during the World Cup by opening a “Spectator Zone” on the Market Plaza. Six big screens broadcasting all the live games, reruns and highlights will be positioned for supporters to keep up to speed with all the action. There will be live entertainment on non-match days and boerewors rolls, draught beers, ciders and various soft drinks for sale inside the venue.
Hyundai Spectator Zone
Positioned at the opening to the Gateway Canal, the 5000m² Hyundai Spectator Zone will provide entertainment for up to 2000 fans during the month-long tournament, with large-screen viewing, catering offerings and fan competitions.
The Lookout: VIP rooftop marquee
The Lookout is set to become Cape Town’s most sought-after venue for discerning football fans to take in all the action, with its panoramic views of Cape Town Stadium and Table Mountain. Set in Granger Bay, a new area of the V&A Waterfront, The Lookout is a rooftop-marquee venue that boasts an exclusive chalet and a cocktail lounge area that can accommodate 700 people.
The Lookout: Spectator Zones at Eagles’ Nest, Lions’ Den and The Wine Bar
Eagles’ Nest is being hailed as the city’s top party venue. The 800m² venue offers unprecedented views of Table Mountain, Cape Town Stadium and Robben Island. Heighten your football fever with their line-up of DJs and live music while matches play on surrounding big screens.
Lions’ Den is a South African-themed 800m² tented restaurant offering local delicacies like kudu and springbok for curious visitors and discerning locals.
Sushi, oysters, cheeses, olives and premium South African wines will be on offer at The Wine Bar. Purchases by the case are available and can be delivered directly to your door – whether nationally and internationally – for a small fee. Tasting fees will apply, but are fully refundable if you purchase a case of wine from the relevant estate.
Eco-friendly Coca-Cola Crateman
Kids will love the 12-metre-high Crateman, made entirely from used Coca-Cola crates, set up at the Bascule Bridge. Making a strong recycling and environmental statement, the installation demonstrates that fun can be had with just about anything.
Waterfront Football Focus
Join football fundis on stage everyday where they will be interviewing football movers and kickers. Matches will be reviewed, scores predicted, players critiqued, and trivia games played. Come and enjoy the jam-packed line-up.
