The World Cup story

The 2010 FIFA World Cup™ took place in South Africa between June 11 and July 11, 2010, with eight matches being held in Cape Town, including a quarter-final and a semi-final. Over that time, Cape Town Tourism was at the forefront of capturing and sharing the moments and magic of this tournament online – with blogs, photographs and videos. This section of our website has been dedicated to archiving that content, that you might relive these moments with us.

In this portion of the site, we have also decided to share the legacies and lessons that came out of hosting this mega event and hope that these will be of use to cities set to host FIFA World Cup™ matches in the future.

Cape Town Tourism is proud to have been part of such a successful event and wishes host cities in Brazil all the best as they prepare to host the 2014 event.
